Healthy aging is a goal we all share, and for seniors, a well-balanced diet can make a enormous difference in quality of life. Good nutrition is the first line of defense for older adults who are striving to maintain their independence as they age, and healthy choices can help to protect them from illness and disease.  However, achieving a well-balanced diet is not as easy as it sounds. The physical limitations of aging often make dining, shopping and cooking a challenge for many seniors who want to stay healthy. Quite often, a joint effort by family members must be made to ensure the wellness of a loved one.

Senior health awareness begins with identifying the warnings signs of improper eating. These first alerts may warn families or caregivers of the potential hazards that loved ones may be facing if a well-maintained diet isn’t practiced.

Family caregivers have their own challenges. Busy schedules helping elderly parents with shopping and meal preparation often create added stress, which can lead to illness in itself.
